The Plurinational State of Bolivia announced the transfer of the protective presidency of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) to Colombia at the end of August, as confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Celinda Sosa.

“At the end of August, we will transfer the pro tempore presidency to Colombia. I want to express that Bolivia gave a special and differentiated dynamic that was recognized by the secretary of the CAN himself,” he told the media.

Bolivia received the pro tempore presidency of Peru's CAN on August 5, 2023 and must now transfer management to Colombia.

“Let's hope that based on all the dynamism that Bolivia gave it, the agenda can be strengthened. There are topics of interest such as immigration, trade within the CAN and organized crime,” he said.

The CAN is an example of integration in South America and is made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It was founded on May 26, 1969 with the signing of the Cartagena Agreement, in Colombia.
