The Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Franklin Molina, announced that the Andean nation will put its first biodiesel plant into operation in March, after engineering and civil works are 80% complete.

During a conference, the official explained that the plant, located in Santa Cruz, “is also part of other projects, such as biodiesel plant 2 in El Alto. Both add up to about three thousand barrels. We have a third plant that has hydrotreatment technology with HVO technology (nine thousand barrels), and the sum will give 12 thousand barrels of biodiesel.”

He noted that public investment in the three biodiesel plants exceeds 387 million dollars. The fuel will be produced from soybean waste, recycled oils, oil palm trees and the macororó plant.

“We are talking about 80% of the progress of the works, of course, that within that percentage some components, such as the civil part, are talking about more than 90% that have already been implemented,” he said, quoted by Sputnik on his website.

The biodiesel obtained will be second and third generation, from plant waste. The government measure seeks to replace diesel imports, mainly intended for the agricultural sector.
