The authorities of the Federative Republic of Brazil reported that the number of people killed as a result of the rains that hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul, since April 29, has increased to 95.
The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul has counted 131 missing and 362 injured by the unprecedented rains and floods affecting the region.
Authorities in the southern Brazilian state say that around 1.5 million people suffer from a lack of food, medicine and basic services such as electricity and energy, of whom about 160,000 are taking refuge in the homes of friends or family and another 48,799 in makeshift shelters provided by the authorities.
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, reported that 401 municipalities in the state have been affected by rains and floods.
The National Meteorological Institute of Brazil (INMET) announced last Tuesday new rainfall for this Wednesday, warning that it will be stronger between Friday and Sunday.
