Last Tuesday, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) denounced the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, for his participation in the coup attempt after the 2022 elections, when he was defeated at the polls by the country's current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The entity formally denounced the former president, charging him with three crimes: attempted coup d'etat, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and leading an armed criminal organization.
The accusation represents the first element to initiate the legal process, and was formalized before the Federal Supreme Court (TSF), which will prosecute to decide if it accepts it and charges the representative of the Brazilian extreme right.
The document signed by the attorney general, Paulo Gonet, consists of more than 200 pages alleging Bolsonaro's responsibility as the leader of the coup strategy, which ended with the assault, by his supporters, of the buildings of the three branches of government in Brasilia, on January 8, 2023.
