The judges of the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil (TSF), this Monday, have ratified the decision of Judge Alexandre de Moraes to block the use of the social network X in the country; as a result it will continue to be unable to be used.
The five judges who were to evaluate the decision to suspend the social network, three had already voted to keep it (Moraes himself, Flávio Dino and Cristiano Zanin), according to information from the local press based on the electronic voting system of the country's highest judicial court.
The majority of Supreme Court judges on Monday approved one of the most controversial points in Moraes's decision, which provides for fines of up to 50,000 reais (8,880 dollars) for individuals and companies that use “technological subterfuge” to stay connected to X, as well as the use of VPNs.
Moraes ordered the suspension of the use of X in Brazil due to repeated breaches of court orders by the company's owner, magnate Elon Musk.
The judge determined that until the company has legal representation in Brazil (an indispensable requirement for operating in the country, according to local regulations) the social network will not be able to function.
