Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi formalize their candidacy to host the 2031 Pan-American Games

The cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi in Brazil officially submitted their joint bid to host the 2031 Pan American Games.

“The Brazilian Olympic Committee received the application dossier for the candidacy of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi for the Pan American and Parapan American Games of 2031,” the COB said in a statement quoted by the Sputnik agency.

The COB must now decide what will be the candidacy that will represent Brazil, on January 31, the COB will send a letter to PANAM Sports, the highest entity in Pan American sports, informing which city will be Brazil's bet.

Rio de Janeiro already hosted the Pan American Games in 2007 and the Olympic Games in 2016. Niteroi is the neighboring city of Rio de Janeiro, separated by a 14-kilometer bridge that crosses Guanabara Bay, and it is expected that, among other events, it will be able to accommodate sailing modalities.
