Leaders of the community block, in response to the call of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for the BRICS virtual summit participate in the virtual Summit with the objective of debating and developing a joint response to the United States' attacks against multipolarity and, specifically, the tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration.

“There was a consensus on the need to move towards a more just, balanced and inclusive international order, capable of reflecting the ongoing transformations and responding more effectively to the demands of the global south,” the Brazilian Government quoted by Sputnik said in a statement.

In the letter, the leaders emphasized that, in the face of growing international instability, both in the economic and political fields, the BRICS reaffirm their commitment “to the preservation and strengthening of multilateralism, as well as to the reform of international institutions.”

The meeting between leaders lasted one hour and 30 minutes and was attended by the presidents of China, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Russia and South Africa, as well as the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, the Foreign Minister of India and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
