This Monday, two judges of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales ruled that Julian Assange has the right to appeal his extradition to the United States (USA).
During the hearing, dedicated to the evaluation of the guarantees granted by Washington, it was agreed to respect the journalist's rights during the judicial process and that he would not face the death penalty, Russia Today (RT) said.
The British government approved the surrender of the founder of WikiLeaks to the US authorities in June 2022, Assange's defense succeeded in taking the case to the London High Court to appeal the extradition, insisting that the Australian journalist has no guarantees of a fair trial in the US.
After hearing the ruling, the activist's wife, Stella Assange, told the press that “the judges made the right decision”. “We spent a lot of time listening to how the US 'put lipstick on a pig' (to make up the situation), but the judges didn't swallow it. As a family, we feel relief, but for how long can this go on?” , he said.
