Cabello activated Operation Mercury to help Colombians displaced by violence (+photos)

Following the instructions of President Nicolás Maduro, the sectoral vice-president of Politics, Public Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, announced the activation of Operation Mercury to help those displaced by Colombian violence.

This plan was activated at the Catatumbo Santa Bárbara del Zulia Lightning Airport, to serve people displaced by the violence that is currently taking place in the North of the Department of Santander, Cabello said, according to information from the Ministry for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace.

“From here in Venezuela, as we have always done, on instructions from Commander Hugo Chávez and President Nicolás Maduro Moros, we support these displaced people,” he said.

He explained that more than 680 fighters from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), police forces, Civil Protection and firefighters are deployed in this operation, with the purpose of providing humanitarian aid and solidarity to people who are victims of the situation of violence registered on the Colombian side.

He pointed out that the displaced people of New Granada are referred to various health centers for proper medical care; as well as to the different states of the Venezuelan geography where they have family members.

In addition,
the Minister for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace took a
tour of the Casigua El Cubo Refuge, located in the state of Zulia,
to personally verify the development of the operation that provides
comprehensive assistance to refugees received from Colombia.
