The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, supported the position taken by the presidents of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, not to attend the Summit of the Americas because he considered it exclusive.
“They are calling for the Summit of the Americas and they left out Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba. If there is exclusion, it is not a summit but a “meeting of friends” of the United States (USA), and suddenly the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announces that he will not attend, as did the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum,” he said.
He argued that these types of regional multilateral meetings lose their purpose when they are used to generate exclusion and discretionary treatment required by the US government.
