The Venezuelan cultural scene paid homage to the playwright Humberto Orsini by commemorating the centenary of his birth with an artistic and reflective day in Caracas.

Under the title “The Orsini 100”, the activity took place in the Hugo Chávez university plaza, adjacent to the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), where music, photography, speech and stage performance came together to highlight his legacy.

The activity was accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Raúl Cazal, who highlighted the author's contribution to Venezuelan social theater. “A man of street theater, for workers, who, together with César Rengifo, built a proposal for the public to have fun and reflect,” he said.

For his part, the director of the National Theater Company (CNT), Carlos Arroyo, emphasized his historical relevance as a playwright, teacher and researcher. Humberto was a capital man for Venezuelan theater, important as a writer, playwright, teacher and researcher. He is one of the two Venezuelans who wrote the message for the International Day of Theater,” he said.

In addition, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Gabriela Simoza, emphasized the importance of keeping her memory alive. “It is valuable to vindicate the work of Humberto and all Venezuelan playwrights across the country. May the new generations continue to raise their voices and their fighting spirit through theater,” he said.

The program included the opening of the exhibition “Teatro Vida en Orsini”, a discussion about his critical thinking and dramatized readings of his sainetes, accompanied by gunboat music.

The tribute closed with a staging by the CNT cast, reaffirming Orsini's humanist legacy and his vision of theater as a tool for social transformation.
