Caracas mayor's office rescued three pets trapped in a building collapsed by earthquakes in San Bernardino

Emergency and infrastructure teams from the Caracas Mayor's Office continue to work on the Moisés building in the San Bernardino parish in the area, successfully rescuing three pets trapped in the rubble, 34 days after the double earthquake.

Through a post on her Instagram account, the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, reported on the recent findings made, including the location of “Noche”, a black cat that remained under the structure, as well as the subsequent rescue of two turtles identified as “Niña 1" and “Niña 2".

Meléndez stressed that the animals found have already been returned to their respective families. “We are very excited to share this news, in the midst of so much human loss and the pain that remains in our hearts,” he said.

“This has been possible because before starting any controlled demolition, our teams carry out a census of each family, including their pets, and then eye inspection is carried out by structural engineers and pathologists,” said the Mayor.

He said that after all this inspection, lifting maneuvers are carried out, floor by floor, with the help of a basket truck, and finally Civil Protection rescuers and FUNDACARACAS engineers enter.

The Mayor emphasized that they will continue in each affected space, working, accompanying families and rebuilding “our capital city, both materially and humanly.”
