As part of the International
Progressive Theatre Festival 2025, the photographic exhibition “The
Crucified of the Theater” opened this Sunday. This exhibition, comprised of more than 100 black and
white photographs, offers a visual journey through the rich history of Venezuelan
theater at the Artist's House in the city of Caracas.
The Deputy Minister of Arts, Image and Space, Mary
Pemjean, led the inauguration, accompanied by members of the
National Theater Company and The Artist's House.
Pemjean highlighted the importance of the exhibition, highlighting the work of photographer Miguel Gracia and his ability to capture the essence of Venezuelan theater over decades. “In each photograph you can see how different actors have been placed in different works where they have been crucified,” he said.
In addition, he emphasized the relevance of the exhibition in
the context of Palm Sunday, drawing a parallel between
theatrical performance and the deep emotional burden of Holy Week. At the same time,
he referred to the announcement by the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, about the
soon return of Venezuelan theater to the stage, inviting the public to
enjoy theatrical diversity in the 23 states of the country.
“This is a complement to a group of men and
women, who can do magic from the theater. Thanks to those photographers who
make this dream come true in different spaces, from Rajatabla, Alberto
de Paz and Mateos,” he said.
For his part, the exhibition coordinator of the Casa del Artista, José Medina, highlighted the exhibition's motto, “May humanity be human”, and the diversity of works represented, including classics such as “La Celestina”, “Deep”, “The Other Story of Hamlet” and “Manuelote”.
