Cataniapo River Commune reforests basins with 250 local species in Amazonas

Volunteers and indigenous leaders from the Cataniapo River Commune, accompanied by allied institutions and workers from the Bolivarian Mayor's Office of Atures, carried out a day of reforestation at Kilometer 10 within the framework of the Chuquisaca Plan, achieving the successful planting of 250 new trees.

The initiative seeks to restore local green areas, protect the hydrographic basin and strengthen the biodiversity of the Amazon territory through direct environmental conservation action, the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism press reports.

The plantation integrated a strategic selection of species adapted to the regional ecosystem to maximize ecological impact.

The participants planted fruit species such as cocura, guama and merey, essential for feeding native fauna and providing nutritional resources to families in the area.

They also incorporated large forest species such as mahogany and sarrapia, which protect the soil against erosion and help maintain soil moisture.

The deployment stood out for the inclusion of rubber (Hevea brasiliensis), consolidating itself as the central element of the day because it is the emblematic tree of the Amazon state.

Its incorporation reaffirms the cultural identity and environmental richness of the entity, connecting botanical tradition with current ecological recovery efforts.

This action demonstrates the power of community organization and the safeguarding of the ancestral knowledge of native peoples, who remain in the first line of defense of the Amazon forests.

Community spokespersons emphasized that the 250 new plants represent life, future and fundamental protection for the water and land of their communities.
