Through his Instagram account, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Rómulo Gallegos (CELARG) announced the Venezuelan Asdrúbal Jesús Alamilla González, from the state of Carabobo, as the winner of the International Essay Contest “Sovereignty, Imperialism and Critical Thinking”.

His work, entitled “Decolonizing Sovereignty: The Commune, Trench of Life and Care”, was unanimously selected by the jury among 51 essays from 14 countries, in an international call that seeks to promote critical reflection on contemporary reality.

The jury was composed of Ximena González Broquen, Humberto González Silva and Fernando Luis Rojas López, who highlighted the quality of the works presented in this edition of the contest, organized in conjunction with the House of the Americas of Cuba and the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity.

In addition, nine essays were selected for publication, including works by authors from Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica, addressing issues related to sovereignty, geopolitics, critical thinking and the contemporary dynamics of imperialism.

This international competition is part of the initiatives promoted by CELARG to promote critical thinking and intellectual debate around global challenges, with the participation of writers of different nationalities.
