CENAL donated more than a thousand books to communes of Charallave to strengthen reading and cultural identity

During an event in the
Popular and Community Self-Government Room of the Charavares Indians Commune, the National Book Center
(CENAL) delivered a total of 1,248 books destined for the libraries of the communal circuits of the Cristóbal Rojas municipality, Miranda state
.
The activity was led by the president
of CENAL, Raúl Cazal; the sole authority of Culture of the state of Miranda, Gabriela Simoza; the mayor of the Bolivarian municipality Cristóbal
Rojas, Yuhismar Hernández; the head of the Popular and
Communal Self-Government Room of the “Charavares Indians Commune”, Lisbeth Velazco, and the promoter of reading and teaching in the region Leonardo Cádiz.
Cazal highlighted the value of the book as a
tool to strengthen collective knowledge and cultural identity. “The
use of books generates greater knowledge, retention and capacity for
debate; it allows us to better understand our reality,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of
orality to share communities' stories through
literature. “Not everything is written; a lot of things are oral, and we're
working to make sure they're written too,” he said.
For her part, Gabriela Simoza pointed out that
libraries must be “tools for awareness and defense of the future”,
while calling for expanding the promotion of reading throughout the country.
In addition, Mayor Yuhismar Hernández
proposed establishing a community program of “Reading and Coffee Fridays” to
strengthen learning spaces and cultural exchange in the town.
The collection delivered includes titles of
different genres with works by Venezuelan authors such as Rómulo Gallegos, Teresa
de la Parra, Andrés Eloy Blanco, Gustavo Pereira and Earle Herrera, as well as international
classics by Carlos Marx, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe and James Joyce, among others.
