The National Book Center (CENAL) held a day at the Mireya Vanegas Educational Unit, in the Caricuao parish of Caracas, where they gave free copies of the “25 for 25” collection to the young people of that school.

The activity is part of CENAL's reading promotion program, in coordination with the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC) and the Economic Culture Fund (FCE) of Mexico, responsible for the edition of the “25 for 25” collection.

During the day, students received copies of this literary series, distributed nationally, aimed at young people between 15 and 30 years old, with the purpose of promoting access to works that address historical, social and cultural realities in Latin America.

Among the titles awarded, Operation Carlota stood out, a chronicle by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez that narrates an episode of international solidarity in the context of conflicts in Africa during the 20th century.

The CENAL team emphasized that the objective of this type of activity is to promote the habit of reading under the motto “more books, less screens”, as a strategy to encourage direct contact with the physical book in the face of digital consumption.

In addition, the teachers and facilitators who participated in the activity emphasized the value of the printed book as a tool for critical training and knowledge construction, in a context where disinformation is warned about disinformation in digital environments.
