The National Book Center (CENAL) held a training workshop for reading
mediators at the Armando Zuloaga Blanco Transitional Camp,
located on Panteón Avenue in Caracas, with the purpose of promoting reading
habits and creating support spaces for families affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.
The
activity, carried out as part of the Route
of Hope and the
National Bicentennial Reading Plan, brought together 13 people housed in
this space, who participated in a day aimed at strengthening
reading, writing and critical thinking.
During
the meeting, led by CENAL's Strategy Manager, Yris
Villamizar, the participants worked with the six titles that are part
of the collection distributed in the temporary camps, including Simon and Nevado, I met the boy Simon, Skull and Freedom, Sovereignty and History.
Through participatory dynamics and exercises to create stories
based on images, the attendees delved into the thinking and legacy
of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, while acquiring
tools to become promoters of reading within their own communities.
Villamizar stressed that this
initiative seeks to consolidate networks of mediators capable of multiplying the reading
experience in different spaces. “There is a reading people that keep
going despite difficulties,” he said.
