Center for Cultural Diversity of Saint Lucia received the Fifth Meeting of Saint John the Baptist

The San Benito Cultural Diversity Center
, in Santa Lucía, Miranda state, opened its
doors to host the fifth edition of the San Juan Bautista Meeting,
which is being held to strengthen the preservation and transmission of this religious and cultural
manifestation.
The
activity brought together more than 300 practitioners and devotees from different towns in
Miranda, who shared songs, drumbeats and
traditional expressions linked to the festive cycle in honor of San Juan Bautista,
declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in December 2021.
During
the day, the Secretary of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Government
of Miranda, Mariam Martínez, highlighted the wide participation of children and
young people, considering that their presence evidences the commitment of the
bearers to the transmission of knowledge and practices associated with the
devotion of Saint John the Baptist.
As
hosts, the parrandas of San Juan Bautista de Santa Lucía participated,
coming from the central area, Las Adjuntas and Soapire. They were joined by
delegations from Tácata and La Matica, in the Guaicaipura municipality; Guarenas, Plaza municipality; Lucio and Ñeta de Guatire, Zamora
municipality; San Antonio de
Yare, Simón Bolívar municipality; Santa Teresa, Independencia municipality; and Cúa, Urdaneta municipality.
The meeting is part of an initiative launched since 2022 to promote the safeguarding of this tradition, strengthen exchange between carrier communities and ensure the continuity of their cultural manifestations.
