Through his Telegram channel, the former foreign minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, reported that he had a conversation with his counterpart from the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, as part of his country's presidency of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN).
During the call, Gil announced the security situation in the Caribbean in the face of repeated threats from political sectors in the United States that seek to justify a war deployment in the region and jeopardize the stability of the continent.
“We received the full expression of support and solidarity from the Russian Government with Venezuela, as well as its commitment to the preservation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace,” he explained.
He also noted that both agreed on the importance of “strengthening joint action within the framework of the UN, the Security Council and the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, to guarantee respect for international law and the sovereignty of peoples.”
