The aplomb of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, during his presentation before a court of the United States after being kidnapped in Caracas, was highlighted by the press of that country, who in various media reported that the Venezuelan president declared himself innocent and as acting Head of State a prisoner of war, in accordance with the Geneva pact.
“A true giant of the Fatherland! See how journalists narrate with admiration the firmness and dignity of President Nicolás Maduro in reaffirming his status as Constitutional President of Venezuela in response to false accusations against him. An innocent man, who has been kidnapped but never defeated. We will win!” , Foreign Minister Yván Gil wrote on his Telegram account.
The president supported the “Geneva Pact” as a fundamental international treaty of International Humanitarian Law that establishes rules to limit atrocities in war, protecting non-combatants (civilians, medical and humanitarian personnel) and those who no longer participate in hostilities (wounded, sick, shipwrecked, prisoners of war).
