The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, led the first preparatory meeting of the Committee Promoting Communes and Social Movements for the Bicentenary of the Panamanian Amphictyonic Congress.

The meeting was attended by the deputy Blanca Eekhout, president of the Simon Bolivar Institute, together with a large representation of community members and social leaders from all over the country, the Foreign Minister reported through a publication on the Telegram channel.

“We have started a route that will allow us to commemorate the 200th anniversary of this historic meeting held in Panama in 1826, convened by the Liberator Simon Bolivar, and to analyze the legacy that we have to assume today,” said Gil.

He also asserted that the Amphictyonic Congress laid the foundations for Latin American and Caribbean integration, guaranteeing the full independence and sovereignty of our peoples in the face of threats from the North.

This meeting marks the starting point of a work agenda that will extend throughout the year 2026, in the search to strengthen the regional bloc in the face of the political and economic pressures of the North American empire.
