The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil,
reaffirmed this Thursday Venezuela's position in favor of putting an immediate
and unconditional end to the application of Unilateral Coercive Measures (MCU) to sovereign
nations of the world, since “they are arbitrary, unilateral and
illegal, called and constitute a crime against humanity.”
“It's a massive violation of
Human Rights, since they seek to deprive populations of their own means of
coexistence,” Gil said during his speech at the 89th plenary session
of the 78th session of the United Nations.
He recalled that currently more than 30 countries
are subject to coercive measures that affect the daily life of
humanity, “erode multilateralism, increase mistrust,
tensions around the world, are a global problem and require a global solution.”
He also denounced that today's unilateral
coercive measures are much more cruel and destructive,
“because they use the pain and suffering of entire peoples to advance
their interventionist and destabilization agendas (...) therefore they
constitute a global problem that requires a global solution”.
He ratified the sanctions “endanger the life and well-being of peoples subject to it, while hampering international cooperation and limiting the ability of States subject to them to access and acquire foreign investment and technology, as well as goods and services necessary to address various challenges, including environmental issues.”
In turn, he indicated that today, when a multipolar world is rising, such measures also seek “unfair” competition in the markets: reserve currencies, sovereign property is arbitrarily used as weapons of oppression, or is even confiscated. As a result, any country that depends to a greater or lesser extent on Western markets, technology and financial assistance, and which may also have reserves from Western jurisdictions, is likely to face the risk of a total loss of its assets, they intend, among other things, to strangle the global south and undermine the potential for its economic development.”
He reaffirmed the importance of “putting a complete
and immediate end to all these illegal measures”, which in addition to
aggravating the lives of the affected nations, have an impact on the global crisis that
is currently being experienced throughout the world.
He also expressed the solidarity of
Venezuela, who today are also dealing with these measures applied by the United
States, the European Union and satellite countries.
