The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, stressed this Saturday that the criminal military attack of the United States (USA) against Venezuela represents a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and International Law.

In telephone contact with Telesur, Gil reiterated that Venezuela requested an urgent meeting before the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) so that this body “assumes its responsibility, the responsibility to condemn the attacks, to arrest the aggressor.”

“What is at stake here, what is under discussion, is that the Charter of the United Nations has been violated, in its article 1, in its article 2, which prohibits the use of force, the threat of the use of force,” he said.

He emphasized that U.S. aggression “must stop immediately, such action cannot exist under international law (...) criminal aggression and is condemned by international law.”

In this regard, he indicated that "Venezuela will exercise its right to defense in all multilateral forums, international forums, activating all available mechanisms”.

The immunity of Heads of State must be respected

Regarding what happened with the person of the Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy warned that this sets a dangerous precedent in the world.

“The immunity that Heads of State have in international law is being violated here, a serious precedent is being violated in the world,” he said.
