The foreign minister of Spain, José Manuel Albares, indicated that the extreme right, Edmundo González, wanted to leave Venezuela immediately.
“Edmundo González was very clear from the start. I wanted to leave Caracas and apply for the right to asylum in Spain,” Albares said during an interview with a television station in the European country.
He criticized the People's Party (PP) for its attitude of pressuring the extreme right to issue a forced statement. This evidences the falsehood of the Spanish Government's accusation of an alleged coercion by Venezuela against the former presidential candidate.
“The Popular Party, which loves to photograph itself so much with Edmundo González, but which later does not respect his will and has been forced to issue an explanatory statement about things he wants to leave behind. Edmundo was very clear about coming to Spain,” he said.
Finally, Albares reiterated that González was aware that he could stay at the Spanish embassy in Venezuela but that his decision to leave was immediate, according to what was published on the Venezuela News web portal.
