“Based on the illegal imposition of unilateral coercive measures (MCU), it seeks to punish entire peoples for the simple fact of having dared to define their own political, economic, social and cultural models; for refusing to bow to the blackmail of Western powers and their partners; and, ultimately, for having privileged their desire to remain free, independent and sovereign,” emphasized the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil.
During his speech at the plenary session of the XIX Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (MNOAL), which is taking place in Uganda, he denounced that the application of the MCU forms part of modern manifestations of neocolonialism and violates the human rights of peoples en masse; in addition to being “the main obstacle to the achievement of our national development plans”.
In the case of Venezuela, the Foreign Minister recalled that “we have years of fighting against a series of ill-called sanctions, which are part of a plan of maximum calculated cruelty and that, based on pain and suffering, seek to promote, especially through unconstitutional means, the establishment of regimes that respond to their political, economic and geostrategic interests.”
The representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela at the Summit specified that, despite the imposition of these measures, the Government of President Nicolás Maduro Moros has always maintained the protection of the people, through social investment.
Gil reiterated his solidarity and “firm support for the more than five billion people around the world who are victims of this type of criminal aggression and who in unison demand their complete, immediate and unconditional uprising.”
