After the disappearance of Julia Chuñil Catricura, president of the Mapuche community of Putreguel, in the Chilean region of Los Ríos (center), her family reported the existence of key evidence that suggests that she was murdered
The evidence was dismissed by the Public Prosecutor's Office, reflecting a serious and deliberate inaction by the Public Prosecutor's Office to find the truth and blame their children for what happened to the leader.
Chuñil's relatives , lawyers and human rights organizations, including the Ethics Committee against Torture and Amnesty International, revealed that, in a judicially authorized telephone interception, the main suspect, Juan Carlos Morstadt Anwandter, told his father that Chuñil was “burned”.
Chuñil, 72, had been the subject of threats in the years prior to his disappearance; so far there are no prosecuted perpetrators or significant progress in the investigation. For their close circle, the omission of evidence and the lack of judicial results confirm the State's responsibility in the face of judicial inaction.
