Chilean observers who participated in the presidential elections in Venezuela on July 28 highlighted the transparency and reliability of the electoral process.

In this regard, through a statement released by Chilean media, experts on electoral issues demanded that the government of Gabriel Boric respect the institutionality of Venezuela and recognize the will of the people expressed “clearly” at the polls.

“Those of us who served as Chilean international observers in the Venezuelan presidential elections of July 28, 2024 were accredited by the CNE to carry out our electoral observation (...) Since our observation and monitoring of the presidential elections, we call on the government of Chile to respect the democratic institutionality of the State of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and to recognize the will of Venezuelans clearly expressed at the polls, as even 8 of the 9 opposition candidates have already done,” reads the statement.

They also emphasized the request to Foreign Minister Alberto Van Klaveren, we urge him to respect the sovereignty of Venezuelan institutions such as the CNE and to recognize the government, in addition to demanding that it refrain from making pronouncements that disrespect the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples.

“The government of President Boric protested diplomatically when the ultra-right senators Rojo Edwards and Kast, who had not been invited or accredited to any Venezuelan authority to act as observers in the presidential elections, were denied entry. Consequently, if it is consistent with its own discourse, the government should receive the Chileans who were international observers of the Venezuelan elections,” they said.
