Chilean Foreign Ministry delegate arrived in Caracas to begin the reactivation of consular relations

The general director of Consular Affairs, Immigration and Chileans Abroad, Hernán Núñez, is already in Caracas to complete the reactivation of consular relations between Chile and Venezuela, the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on its official website.

In its mission, a review will begin of the administrative and operational steps required to begin public service, which includes procedures such as the issuance of identity documents and passports, the legalization of certificates and titles, and the provision of consular assistance in emergencies, among others.

As part of the process of resuming consular relations, meetings will be held with Venezuelan authorities.

Last Thursday, July 30, the Governments of Chile and Venezuela announced the beginning of a road map for the progressive normalization of bilateral relations, starting with consular relations.

“Having consular assistance as soon as possible in Caracas is a priority for the Foreign Ministry and the first step in continuing to approach a country with which we have had historic relations,” said the foreign minister, Francisco Pérez Mackenna.

The minister stressed that “an opportunity is opening up to help citizens who require State services, through consulates, and marks the beginning of a new phase towards the full restoration of bilateral relations.”

Currently, about 25,000 Chileans live in Venezuela.
