China backs Venezuela's sovereignty during UN Security Council

This Tuesday, November 23, during the session of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), the People's Republic of China expressed support for Venezuela's sovereignty over its resources in the face of illegal unilateral sanctions applied by the United States (USA).
This was stated by the representative of China to the UN Security Council, Fu Cong, who assured that “Venezuela as an independent and sovereign State has the right to develop in a mutual and beneficial way with other countries, in accordance with its legitimate rights and interests, this should be respected and supported by the international community.”
In this regard, he reaffirmed the Asian giant's rejection of all acts of unilateralism and harassment against any country. “All countries must defend their sovereignty, we are against any measure that violates and violates the principles of the UN Charter and that interferes with the sovereignty of a third State.”
He also noted that they are “against threats and the use of force in international relations and external interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela, under any pretext and we are against illegal unilateral sanctions and a jurisdiction that has no basis in international law.”
Consequently, China called on the United States to hear the call to the international community to stop its actions in the Caribbean, which range from economic blockade, military threats, extrajudicial executions and ship confiscation, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.
“We urge the United States to respect the navigational security of countries in the region and the freedom enjoyed by countries in the region under international law,” he said and reaffirmed China's commitment to continue promoting peace, cooperation and security in the global South.
