China before the UN: The US has deliberately trampled on Venezuela's sovereignty and its legitimate rights and interests

The Deputy Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations (UN), Sun Lei, denounced that the United States (USA), despite its status as a permanent member of the Security Council, tramples on the sovereignty of Venezuela.

The Chinese representative assured that the United States has “deliberately trampled on the sovereignty of Venezuela and its legitimate rights and interests,” ignoring the unanimous call for containment made by various countries in the region.

Likewise, at an emergency meeting of the Security Council held this Monday, January 5, the diplomat described as “flagrant illegal incursions” the events that occurred last Saturday, January 3, where U.S. forces bombed Venezuelan territory and forcibly arrested President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

The diplomat demanded that Washington guarantee the safety of the president and the first female combatant, demanding their immediate release after being removed from the country.

The Chinese representative stressed that the unilateral actions of the United States represent a serious violation of the principles of sovereign equality and the prohibition of the use of force, elements that constitute the cornerstone of maintaining international peace according to the United Nations Charter.
