The representative to the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) of the People's Republic of China, Fu Cong, this Friday, October 10, rejected U.S. military actions in the Caribbean.
“China condemns the human rights violations of the United States military deployment in the Caribbean,” he said.
In his speech, he denounced that U.S. operations violate the rights of Caribbean Peoples and pose a threat to freedom and security of navigation in the region.
“These unilateral and aggressive measures against other countries in international waters constitute a violation of the human rights of these people, they represent a threat to freedom and safety of navigation in these waters,” he emphasized.
Cong asserted that “these aggressive measures could undermine the freedom of countries with their rights to the sea, the interference of the United States seeks to undermine the security of other countries, which is why it violates international law, therefore, we ask for the peace and security of those countries.”
He also recalled that the countries of the Caribbean and Latin America are sovereign nations, and that in 2014 they declared the region a Zone of Peace.
“We have seen how several countries have expressed their concern and condemn the actions of the United States, so we ask the White House to listen to the voices of these regions,” he said.
The Chinese representative remarked his call to the United States to avoid an escalation in the region. “We ask that the United States cease these hostilities in order to maintain peace in Latin America and the Caribbean and we hope that the United States will listen to this voice of the countries of the region and guarantee peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean,” he said.
