China has rejected US President Donald Trump's statements about alleged secret nuclear tests and has reiterated its commitment to the global suspension of atomic tests.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said that China maintains a defensive strategy, does not adopt the preventive use of nuclear weapons and supports peaceful strategic development. He also recalled that his country respects the provisions of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
Mao urged Washington to respect its multilateral obligations and to keep the moratorium in place.
According to what was published on the Sputnik website, the statement was issued following Trump's announcement, on October 31, of the immediate reactivation of the United States nuclear testing program, with the justification that other nations had already resumed such activities.
