The Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its firm support for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the defense of its sovereignty, dignity and national security, “no matter how the political situation evolves,” said the spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, at a press conference.

The official, as reported by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), assured that Beijing has maintained “solid” communication and cooperation with Caracas, and that her country “is deeply committed to deepening practical cooperation and promoting common development.”

In recent years, China has maintained close relations with Venezuela, condemning U.S. intervention in the country and demanding the immediate release of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and the first lady, Cilia Flores. The spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, had previously reaffirmed that Venezuela is a “sovereign state that continuously exercises full sovereignty over its natural resources and economic activity as a whole.”

It is worth remembering that the president in charge of the country, Delcy Rodríguez, met this Thursday with the Chinese ambassador, Lan Hu, and highlighted the “firm and consistent position of China in strongly condemning the serious violation of international law and Venezuelan sovereignty.”
