China reaffirmed support for the UN and its commitment to multilateralism

China reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations (UN), and pledged to deepen international cooperation under the principles of equality, mutual benefit and respect for sovereignty.

The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Mao Ning, spoke out in favor of the multilateral system and the organizations that represent it, since their purpose is to “safeguard the common interests of member states”.

“The current international situation demonstrates once again that the effective functioning of the multilateral system can prevent the expansion of the 'law of the jungle, '” he said, referring to Washington's announcement to withdraw from 66 international organizations, including 31 linked to the UN, reports the Sputnik agency.

He also emphasized that China will always adhere to multilateralism, will support the United Nations to play a central role in international affairs, and will work with the international community to promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system.
