The Government of the People's Republic of China once again demanded that the United States release President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, the first female combatant Cilia Flores, who were kidnapped during a U.S. military attack in Venezuela.
During a press conference, the spokeswoman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, described these Washington measures as flagrant violations of international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.
The official stressed that the United States has for years resorted to illegal sanctions against the Venezuelan oil industry, a situation that has seriously affected the country's economic and social order and jeopardizes the stability of production and supply at the global level.
“China strongly condemns these actions,” he said, while reiterating that cooperation between Beijing and Caracas is developed between sovereign states, protected by international law and the domestic laws of both countries, reports TELESUR.
The spokeswoman emphasized that Venezuela is a sovereign state that continuously exercises full sovereignty over its natural resources and economic activity as a whole.
