China rejected all forms of political manipulation in tracing the origins of COVID-19

This Wednesday, the People's Republic of China is firmly opposed to any form of political manipulation aimed at tracing the origins of the COVID-19 virus, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun.

“The United States Agency for International Development used money from American taxpayers to finance gain-of-function studies at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, in China, which could have caused the COVID-19 pandemic,” the spokesman said during a press conference.

The Asian government affirms that such tracing is a matter of science and that any judgment in this regard must be made in a spirit based on science and by scientists, the spokesman described as “extremely unlikely” that the pandemic was caused by a laboratory leak, which is the authorized conclusion reached by the experts of the joint mission of the World Health Organization (WHO) and China, based on science.

According to Guo, China has also made it clear more than once that the Wuhan Institute of Virology has never participated in gain-of-function studies of the coronavirus. It has never designed, manufactured, or filtered COVID-19.

“When it comes to tracing the origins of the virus, China is firmly opposed to any form of political manipulation. The United States needs to look at itself carefully, instead of avoiding responsibility to others,” he said.
