The Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, Wang Wentao, during his meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Rebeca Grynspan assured that the additional tariffs imposed by the United States had a strong impact on the multilateral trading system.

“All parties must firmly defend multilateralism and free trade, and respect the fundamental principles of the multilateral trading system, bringing greater stability and certainty to the world economy,” Wang said on the website of the Ministry of Commerce of China.

For his part, Grynspan welcomed the global governance initiative presented by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in early September. He also highlighted Prime Minister Li Qiang's announcement.

At the high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative held on September 23 in New York, Qiang noted that China will not seek new special and differential treatments in the current and future negotiations of the World Trade Organization.
