The Government of the People's Republic of China emphasized that it supports any effort to achieve justice in Palestine, following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the HispanTV website reported.
“Beijing supports any effort that contributes to achieving justice and defends international law with respect to Palestine,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Friday, November 22, when asked about the ICC ruling against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant.
He assured that China opposes all actions that violate international law, including international humanitarian law, and condemns any practice that harms civilians or attacks civilian installations.
Lin stressed that “China has always been on the side of equity and justice, as well as on the side of international law”. In addition, he has urged the ICC to remain objective and fair after the issuance of the arrest warrant against Netanyahu.
“China expects the ICC to maintain an objective and fair position, to exercise its powers in accordance with the law,” he said.
On the other hand, the Chinese spokesman also accused the United States of “double standards” in response to a question about the US opposition to the prosecution of Netanyahu by the court, but in return he does support an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“China is systematically opposed to certain countries using international law only when it suits them (...) and adopting double standards,” he stressed.
While international leaders demand justice and compliance with the ruling, the United States has come to the defense of its Israeli ally, asserting that it “categorically rejects” the ICC decision against Netanyahu and Gallant, the White House said.
This is the first time that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant against a senior Israeli official. Over the past 410 days, the Israeli regime has killed 44,056 Palestinians and some 104,268 others have been injured. Most of the victims are women and children.
The Tel Aviv regime continues its crimes, ignoring the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) calling for an end to the aggression and the orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the need to prevent genocide in Gaza.
