China urged the US to cease coercion with Latin American countries over their relations with Beijing

The government of the People's Republic of China urged the United States (USA) to cease coercion against Latin American countries and to respect their right to decide their foreign ties, after learning about pressure from Washington for nations in the region to reduce their ties with Beijing.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, said that the US position “demonstrates once again that policies of pressure and coercion have no support and are becoming less and less feasible.”

“China and Latin America are good friends and good partners on an equal footing, characterized by openness, inclusion and mutually beneficial cooperation. Our cooperation responds to the will of the peoples and the common interest of both parties,” said the Chinese diplomat.
