This Friday, the Government of the Republic of China urged the United States (USA) to resume dialogue on strategic stability with the Russian Federation in the framework of the expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
“To ensure long-term global strategic stability, China urges the United States to resume dialogue with Russia on this issue and to discuss new measures after the expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START),” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian.
In this regard, he added that the international community also expects this. In addition, he stressed that the Asian country is unaware of the US's intentions to replace the expired treaty with a new document.
For his part, the US president called for the development of an “improved and modernized treaty” after the expiration of the New START Treaty. Trump has repeatedly emphasized his desire for China to participate in a new nuclear arms control treaty.
