China will take
all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests in the face of the looming tariff war following the unilateral
sanctions imposed by the United States (US) on Iran
The spokesman for
the Chinese embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, described the threat from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as
another step in his campaign to economically drown Tehran, with “coercion” and
with “pressure”, reports Telesur.
The Government of
China expressed its opposition to “any illegal unilateral sanction” since it considers
that it is an “extraterritorial jurisdiction”.
It should be noted
that China is Iran's main trading partner, accounting for around
30% of its foreign trade and 90% of its
oil exports, followed by Russia and India.
In a
post on his account on his social network Truth Social, Trump said that the order is “immediate and final”, and contemplates
the payment of a 25% tariff on all commercial transactions with the U.S.
to those countries that do business with Iran.
In addition, he announced that he would attack Iran in response to the alleged repression carried out by the authorities against the demonstrations that are shaking the country.
