Members of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) managed to arrest a woman who faked her kidnapping to force her husband to sell his home.

According to information published by the general director of the CICPC, Commissioner Douglas Rico, relatives of the current detainee went to the Maracaibo Municipal Delegation, reporting that they had received multiple messages through WhatsApp, asking for 5 thousand dollars for release.

Rico explained that after the complaint, the “research protocols required in the face of these events were activated and through technical-scientific work, it was determined that she was not in captivity.”

The alleged victim “had allegedly left her home for the offices of the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Aliens (SAIME), but she was kept incommunicado for a long time, when her husband began to receive text messages, informing her that she was kidnapped and were asking for a large sum of money in exchange for her release, so for several days, the alleged captors informed her that if they did not have the money, they would take her life; however, they told her that she could sell her home and give them the money; housing purchased with money that Melisa received for several months from a man she met via the web,” said the Commissioner.

Because of this, the investigative work was carried out and they determined that such kidnapping had not occurred and that she was in the city of Cartagena in the Republic of Colombia, together with a man she had met through a dating website; so they continued negotiating with the alleged captors, until the victim's husband was contacted by Melisa, who informed her that she had managed to negotiate his release for 400 dollars and that he was en route to his residence to locate the money and return to deliver it.

However, the commissions, after spotting the female, materialized her arrest, placing a tablet used to maintain communication with her relatives and, it was left to the order of the Public Ministry.
