The Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) reported on criminal incidents in the field of public health, which, in a strategic and preventive manner, have been countered by the Public Security Bodies, who have dismantled structured groups dedicated to the development and sale of products and medicines without health control.

On the subject, in the program “Let's Talk About Prevention, Building the Way of Hope”, broadcast by MIJP Radio Multimedia, the Secretary General of the CICPC, C/G Mercy Bracho, spoke with experts about the importance of acquiring and ingesting medications previously authorized by the competent bodies.

Regarding the incidents recorded in this area, C/G Flor Cordero, head of this division, explained that “among some incidents, we have observed medical negligence (...) intrusiveness, which refers to people who, without having any health guarantee, carry out medical procedures illegally, which leaves serious consequences and, in some cases, death”.

It also reported the arrest of people for “the unscrupulous alteration of medical formulas for the production of products and medicines and the illegal sale of medicines that do not comply with any type of registration and that do not have permission or health control”.

However, faced with the commission of these actions, Cordero stressed that the CICPC, through a process of exhaustive investigation, has carried out the dismantling of structured groups and the apprehension of people dedicated to this crime who threaten public health.

“Currently, this Public Health Crimes Division has a highly trained staff, who, through a wide organizational structure, carry out inspections and preventive approaches in the communities of the territory, raising public awareness of this criminal act,” he said.

On the other hand, Commissioner Edgard Méndez, attached to this division, invited the population to maintain a preventive culture, which allows them to discover and remain alert to the consumption of this type of drugs and unauthorized substances.

“It is necessary to carry out a crucial and exhaustive review of drug packages, which do not contain spelling errors or that lack information, lack of batch numbers, permits and expiration date; likewise, that they do not present inconsistencies in terms of shape, size, color and texture, always comparing these drugs with the originals,” he explained.

In this regard, he urged citizens to avoid buying natural or artisanal medicines, including “natural watercress, onion or red onion expectorants for coughing, which are prepared without prior health checks, as well as menthol creams, whose chemical composition is based on marijuana, coca leaf and arnica (...) products that are made without complying with the necessary hygiene measures”.
