Cinemateca Nacional screened documentary “Fidel up close” on the occasion of its centenary

The National Cinematheque, in Caracas, screened the historical-biographical documentary “Fidel up Close”, as part of the commemorative program for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The day was attended by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Alejandro López; the Deputy Minister of Audiovisual Culture, Miqueas Figueroa, and the president of the National Cinemateca, Rosa Raydán, and the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández.

“These are 100 years of vertical life, of perseverance and of faith in victory. What is seen in the documentary speaks for itself: it is the story of a man, of a people and of a resistance that we must keep alive,” said the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, at the same time, adding that this commemorative program will continue in the coming days with new activities, including a floral offering in honor of Fidel before the statue of Bolivar and a cultural evening.

For her part, the president of the National Cinematheque, Rosa Raydán, valued the activity as an opportunity to deepen cultural cooperation with the island and with other countries. “We hope to continue to deepen that cooperation and maintain the Cinemateca as a space for sharing historical moments and cultural events.”

It should be noted that the 100-minute documentary, directed by Gabriel Beristain, Roberto Chile and Eduardo Flores Torres, presents an intimate portrait of Castro through anecdotes, testimonies and archival material that cover his childhood, student life, reading habits and family and friendly relationships.
