Civil Protection (PC) of the state of Portuguesa is constantly monitoring the rivers of the municipalities of Unda and Sucre, following recent rains that have increased the flow of the tributaries that feed the Guanare River.

The agency explained that surveillance is part of preventive measures aimed at reducing risks, when watercourses tend to receive a greater flow. Surveillance was also extended to the main seaside resorts in the south of the state.

As part of these measures, on Monday, access and activities were limited in the areas of Unda, Sucre, Guanare, Papelón and Guanarito, due to the possibility of sudden floods.

The authorities asked residents and visitors to stay away from closed areas, avoid crossing rivers with high levels and to report any eventuality to Civil Protection or the Fire Department.

The regional director of Civil Protection, Daniel Márquez, reported that technical teams are still evaluating the behavior of the Anus River, whose increase in flow has caused the Guanare level to rise.
