Collapse leaves one dead and more than 50 injured in the Philippines

An 80-year-old woman died and more than 50 people were injured after the second wooden floor of a Catholic church collapsed this Wednesday morning in the city of San José del Monte, in the province of Bulacán, north of Manila, official sources said.
In this regard, the mayor of the city, Arthur Robes, told the press that the woman was seriously injured and died in hospital.
For her part, the head of the city's Office of Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Gina Ayson, stated that the accident occurred around 07:20 local time (23:20 GMT on Tuesday), when Catholics were filling the church to celebrate Ash Wednesday.
Ayson initially reported that only 34 people were injured, mostly with bruises and shoulder pain, but after a more detailed evaluation, the disaster prevention office increased the number of injured to more than 50.
