The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that President Gustavo Petro called his ambassador to the United States (USA), Daniel García-Peña, who is already in Bogotá, for consultation.
The Foreign Ministry announced that in the next few hours the Government will report on the following actions that they will carry out.
The decision comes at a time of maximum tension between Bogotá and Washington, stemming from Petro's protests in the face of military aggression by the U.S. country in the Caribbean Sea, following constant lethal attacks on more than half a dozen vessels.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump accused Petro of being a leader in drug trafficking and announced the suspension of all payments and subsidies to Colombia, although without providing further details, likewise; the White House proposed the possible imposition of new tariffs against the country.
The president of New Granada considered that there are no valid justifications for the unilateral escalation of war against Venezuela and has taken a stand against lethal attacks on vessels in international waters, considering them to violate international law.
