Around 20 people have lost their lives due to an outbreak of yellow fever in Colombia since the beginning of the year, which has led the Government of Gustavo Petro in Colombia to declare a health and economic emergency in the country.

The department of Tolima has shown the most critical situation with the report of 41 of the 47 cases registered to date. In comparison, during 2024, according to data provided by the Ministry of Health, cited by Telesur, 23 cases of yellow fever were reported, of which 13 were fatal.

This scenario has led President Gustavo Petro to announce the declaration of emergency, although the date of publication of the decrees is not yet known.

“We are once again faced with a virus. This is the yellow fever virus, transmitted by the female mosquito known as Aedes Aegypti,” the president reported Tuesday through the social network X.
