The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Rosa Villavicencio, reported that she will meet with the US chargé d'affaires in Bogotá, John McNamara, to deliver a note verbale protesting against Donald Trump's statements addressed to President Gustavo Petro.
Villavicencio stressed that the official communication aims to record the rejection of threats and offenses directed at the Colombian head of state, stressing that the president was elected by popular vote and exercises the highest authority in the country, Sputnik reported.
The statement responds to statements made by Trump, who mentioned the possibility of military intervention in Colombia, referring to the production of drugs in the territory.
Petro replied that his status is that of legitimate president and not that of a drug producer.
